Bookmobile works with many Kickstarter creators, and we just finished up conversion AND printing on a Kickstarter eBook and print book for Brooke Dierkhising called Many Ways to See the Sun. In addition to using Bookmobile for the book printing and eBook conversion, Brooke also used our distribution arm, Itasca Books, for print distribution to the trade.
Brooke notes:
There is so much that I liked about working with Bookmobile. As a first time self-publisher, I had a lot of questions, and the people at Bookmobile were great! Communication was open, questions answered, and deadlines kept. I appreciated the detailed proofing process. Prices were good. And most of all, my book is beautiful, I just love how it turned out!
Brooke’s Kickstarter Project
Many Ways to See the Sun: Nature Mediations for Children and the Adults Who Love Them was written, and published, by Brooke Dierkhising.
Brooke worked on the book for four years, launched her Kickstarter in the Summer of 2015, and was successful! Brooke’s Kickstarter budget was carefully researched and broken out for her funders. Brooke laid out the costs for design, ISBN registration, copyright, LOC, a print run of 500 copies, eBook conversion, print distribution, fundraising, and shipping.
Brooke’s Blog was an important piece of her Kickstarter campaign. She launched her Blog a month before her Kickstarter campaign, to let all her personal contacts know what she was working on. Brooke describes:
My experience with Kickstarter, both my own campaign and others, is that campaigns are funded completely by personal contacts. I imagine some of the really big campaigns get strangers to fund, but for smaller projects, it is all about who we know. I like it that way, anyway. One stat that I found interesting was my 9% funding rate—so out of about the 500 emails I sent to, I gained 38 backers.
