I love that we are doing more and more art book printing at Bookmobile—it is always fun to open the print files and see what the artist’s work and the book layout look like. In addition to exhibition catalogs, we’ve been doing a lot of portfolio book printing for artists (and architects and designers), too.
Case in point: Jonah Ward is an artist based in California who creates glass burned panels. Jonah found that he often had to show people a video for them to understand how his work is created. His portfolio book showcases his artwork, but also shows his process, step by step. As you can partly see in the image above, the book shows how Jonah drips and ladles molten glass on different woods, then once the glass cools, he peels it off to reveal the burned impressions in the wood.
Jonah worked with Ryan Stirtz of Stirtz New Media on the book’s design and layout, and Ryan was Bookmobile’s contact for quoting and printing the book. The portfolio is a landscape hardcover at 11″ x 8″ with a matte-laminated printed case and black end sheets. The color interior printed on 80-lb. white uncoated stock, and all pages had a rich black background, which picked up beautifully.
