The Montclair Art Museum in New Jersey has two exhibitions focusing on Matisse and American artists that are running until June 18: Matisse and American Art and Janet Taylor Pickett: The Matisse Series. Bookmobile bound both exhibition catalog printings, the first produced by the Montclair Art Museum, and the second produced by the Imlay Gallery. Exhibition Catalog Printings for the Montclair Art Museum

Matisse and American Art

We’ve worked with the Montclair Art Museum on other catalog printings, like Robert Smithton’s New Jersey and The New Spirit: American Art in the Armory Show, 1913. Working on the Matisse catalog was a thrill—our publisher services representative Gretchen Franke emailed with Matisse’s great-grandson Georges Matisse about color corrections. Chief curator Gail Stavitsky said,

I have gotten so much feedback about how beautiful the catalog is that I can’t seem to get my hands on any one quote that sums it up!

Matisse and American Art (pictured above) is 248 pages and the interior printed 4-color on 80-lb. matte-coated white stock at 510 PPI. The trim size is 9″ x 11″ and we perfect bound it with PUR glue for durability and flexibility. The 4-color cover printed on 10-pt. C1S stock with gloss lay-flat film lamination, and we added maroon endsheets to the front and back. The first run was 1,001 copies.

Janet Taylor Pickett: The Matisse Series

For Janet Taylor Pickett: The Matisse Series, I worked with Kathy Imlay from Imlay Gallery, who represents Janet Taylor Pickett and was the co-curator of the Montclair exhibition, along with Montclair’s chief curator, Gail Stavitsky.

Janet Taylor Pickett: The Matisse Series (pictured above) is 116 pages, printed 4-color on 80-lb. uncoated white stock at 354 PPI. The trim size is 8-1/2″ x 11″, and we perfect bound it with a 4-color cover printed on 10-pt. C1S stock with matte lay-flat film lamination. The first run was 251 copies, and we also did a second run of 200 copies.
