The Patrick Parrish gallery in New York, NY is a new client for Bookmobile. We recently printed the three exhibition catalogs pictured above. The jobs first came as an estimate request for the title RO/LU, and I was really happy to see it: Mike Brady, half of the RO/LU team, is a friend of mine, and Patrick Parrish has exhibited their work. RO/LU is based in St. Paul and was founded by Mike and his partner Matt Olson in 2003. RO/LU works on art and design-related projects, from landscape architecture to performance, video, and sculptural furniture. As a book person, I am especially enamored with their amazing sculptural bookcases. I’ve asked Mike a few times when RO/LU would do a book and when I would get to print it.
But, my connection with Mike isn’t even why Patrick Parrish contacted Bookmobile, nor was it through our SEO efforts with our website, or our fantastic Gallery of print work. It turns out, Eric Carlson, the designer working with Patrick Parrish, used to live in Minneapolis, and heard us of from his time at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the book arts community in the Twin Cities. Eric said he had always wanted to print with Bookmobile. Such a compliment! And such a small world. From Eric,
Bookmobile is a unique service within the field of short-run printing, offering quality crafting, an attentive human presence, and an extensive capability to address project specific details.
So, after a few rounds of estimates, and sending Eric sample pages of his files that we printed as black and white and then color, three catalogs came in for a full round of proofs and printing. As with other gallery clients of ours (see previous posts about The Drawing Center or Blackston Gallery, for example), Patrick Parrish is producing their exhibition catalogs as a cohesive series. Each book is 10″ x 10″, from about 30 to 50 pages, with matte laminated paperback covers, and color interiors on our 80-lb. uncoated white interior stock.
