Wire-o binding or plastic spiral binding is a great choice for any book that needs to lay flat when open: coloring books, cookbooks, music books, journals, teacher’s workbooks, and more—like Dance by Letter, pictured above, a primer and prompt for dancers.
What is Wire-O Binding?
Wire-o binding is also known as twin loop wire, double loop wire, double-o, ring wire, or wirebind. Our wire-o binding assumes a front and back cover, printed 4-color on our 10- or 12-pt. C1S cover stock, with either gloss or matte lay-flat film lamination.
We punch square holes on the spine edge, through the front cover, interior pages, and back cover. The square holes are about 1/4″ in, so we recommend you have at least a 1/2″ gutter margin. We then use a wire closer to insert the wire-o and squeeze it closed. Our wire-o is available in white or black and is the same cost as our plastic spiral binding. We can special order different colors, but for that we require an order of at least 100 copies and it may affect the cost.

What is Spiral Binding?
Spiral binding is also known as coil binding, spiral coil, and coilbind. We call it plastic coil binding—because we’re using a plastic coil, not a wire coil. Our plastic coil binding assumes a front and back cover, printed 4-color on our 10- or 12-pt. C1S cover stock, with either gloss or matte lay-flat film lamination.
We punch circular holes on the spine edge, through the front cover, interior pages, and back cover. The circular holes are about 1/4″ in, so here too, we recommend you have at least a 1/2″ gutter margin. We then use a coil inserter to add the plastic spiral, cut off any excess, and crimp it closed. Our plastic spiral is available in white or black and is the same cost as our wire-o binding. We can special order different colors, but again, we require an order of at least 100 copies and it may affect the cost.
