Bookmobile’s art book printing includes MFA thesis show catalog printing for studio art shows, plus catalogs for artists, galleries, and museum shows and exhibitions. We see such great artwork and ideas in these catalogs! I really look forward to paging through each PDF file and each proof, then of course the finished bound books. The thesis catalog of the Maryland Institute College of Art’s Fiber Department, pictured above, is a great example. The color interior features all the students and their work, and the cover is brilliant, using a large-area blind deboss to simulate a woven texture. How perfect is that for a fiber arts catalog?

Bookmobile offers a truly great fit for printing studio art and thesis show catalogs: we produce excellent quality, our production staff is incredibly experienced (including people who have been with us for over twenty-five years), and we offer many, many options. We can also provide tight turns, so we can accommodate end-of-semester or show opening deadlines. Furthermore, we are competitively priced—ask me for a quote! Offset or overseas is no longer the only option. And while an artist making the book by hand themselves is artistically very cool, it’s certainly not easy, and that’s where we come in.

For example, we’ve been working with the Blackston Gallery in New York for a few years. We print catalogs for new exhibitions at least quarterly, all the while reprinting catalogs of past exhibitions as needed as well. Their catalogs works nicely as a series: all books are a uniform 8″ x 8″ trim size with matte-laminated covers—see their online publications page. It’s an attractive collection!

Another great example is the Jack Richeson School of Art and Gallery in Kimberly, Wisconsin. We’ve printed the color-interior hardcovers for their competitions since 2007—as they describe:

Throughout the year, Jack Richeson hosts various art competitions called the Richeson75 Competitions. Artists from all over the world submit their pieces for entry and 75 are chosen to be on exhibit in our galleries as well as appear in a hardcover book for that competition.

The books are beautiful: foil-stamped cases and dust jackets, with the interior art ranging from collections of portraits, still lifes, animals, birds, wildlife, landscapes, and seascapes, typically printed on 80-lb. gloss coated stock.

Bookmobile is also a great fit for the museum end of the art book printing spectrum. In our Gallery, you can browse images of the museum catalogs we’ve printed for the American Folk Art Museum, Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, The Drawing Center, and the artists Richard Lange and Seton Smith. This is just a small sampling of the work we’ve done.

We’ve worked with the Montclair Art Museum since 2011, when we first printed the exhibition catalog for their show Warhol and Cars. Recently, we’ve printed The New Spirit: American Art in the Armory and Robert Smithson’s New Jersey. Montclair typically uses an 8-1/2″ x 11″ trim size, with 4-color printing on our 80-lb. matte coated white stock. We work on a tight turn for their titles to meet the exhibition openings, so we usually preschedule the job a few weeks in advance, to make sure a slot is open and ready for printing the color interiors.
