In July 2012, Matt Freedman learned that he had Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, a rare and slow growing cancer. Treatment entailed 35 days of radiation and weekly doses of chemotherapy over seven weeks. Just before treatment, a friend gave Matt a blank Moleskine notebook and suggested he fill it up. Matt completed the therapy and the notebook as well, and in March 2013, Bookmobile printed a limited edition run for Matt’s upcoming exhibit, The Devil Tricked Me, at Studio 10 in Brooklyn, NY. The title of the book, Relatively Indolent but Relentless, came from the medical literature Matt read about Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.

Matt provided PDF files of the color interior, and Bookmobile printed and bound the book in a hardcover plain black case to imitate the original Moleskine notebook. See images of Matt’s book and other titles we’ve produced in our Gallery.

According to Matt:

Working with Bookmobile has been nothing but a pleasure. Technical information and publishing options were patiently explained to me, deadlines were all hit or beaten by days or weeks, and the quality of the final product was impeccable. I felt I was less a client than a collaborator. I am looking forward to working with Bookmobile again on another project.

The Devil Tricked Me opens Friday, May 10th and runs to June 16th. And in April 2014, Seven Stories Press will publish a trade edition, so stay tuned!
